In recent days, many groups within the Alerta Network have displayed banners to draw attention to the dramatic situation in Rojava.
What is at stake there is not only the loss of hard-won Kurdish autonomy, but nothing less than another genocide, carried out by Jihadist bands of murderers. The Kurds, who suffered heavy losses while stopping ISIS, are now being abandoned by their former allies in favor of cooperation with the new rulers in Damascus. After all, no one wants to upset those whose support is sought for large-scale deportations of refugees and migrants.
If Rojava were to fall into the hands of Jihadists, this would pose a threat not only to Kurdish self-administration and Kurdish life in the region, but also to anti-authoritarian movements and democracies around the rest of the world.
We demand: Do not leave Rojava alone.
Support the struggle of the Kurds and all threatened minorities in the region. Draw attention to the dramatic situation, take part in demonstrations, inform yourselves, and talk to friends and family about it.
